Imphal: N Biren Singh has been chosen as Manipur’s head minister for the second time. Ten days after the election came, BJP today announced Mr. Singh as the main minister among two more competitors – Singh and Yumnam Khemnand.

The three have met with the BJP Central Leadership in Delhi yesterday, because the party discusses who will become Manipur’s minister.

At present, Union Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Kiren Rijju, who is the BJP Central Observer for Manipur, landed in the state capital to make an announcement.

A former soccer player and journalist, Mr. Singh, 61, led the BJP campaign in Manipur, even though BJP formally announced the face of the main minister.

Bissyang Singh, who is also in the race for posting up, has been in BJP longer than Biren Singh, but the last one was chosen for the top post after the 2017 election.

For BJP, who won the country with a sleek margin of 32 seats from 60, this problem requires deft handling when the alleged rival can exploit the situation.

The third ass supported by the ideological mentor BJP Rashtriya SwayamSevak Sangh for the chair of the minister’s head also appeared in Manipur. RSS-supported leaders, speakers in the previous assembly Yumnam Khemchand Singh, were called to Delhi by BJP leadership yesterday.

Biren Singh fought with the election of Manipur with a promise measured to do something about the Act of Armed Forces (Special Force), or AFSPA, which gave military civil powers over civilians. Even though he said he would work to remove AFSPA, he preferred a balance approach that handled land reality.

Biren Singh began his career as a footballer and was recruited in the border security force, or BSF, playing for his team in domestic competition. He became a journalist after leaving BSF.

Although it did not have formal training and experience, he began a vernacular daily, Naharolgi Thoudang, in 1992 and worked as an editor until 2001.
