Expanding the Indian vaccine basket, the Central Medicine Authority approved the Institute of Indian Covid Vaccine Institute, Biological E’s Jab Corbevax and Molnupiravir Anti-Covid Pills for limited emergency use. Announcement by Minister of Health Union Mansukh Mandaviya came a day after the Subject Expert Committee (SEC) on the Covid-19 Standard Control Organization Center (CDSCO) recommends the administration of Emergency Use (EUA) to Covovax and Corbevax with certain conditions.

It also recommends that emergency approval for emergency use is limited to molnupiravir drugs for the treatment of adult patients with Covid-19 and who have a high risk of disease development. In a tweet, the Minister said, “Congratulations of India. Furthermore, further strengthening the fight against Covid-19, CDSCO, @Mohfw_India has given 3 approval in one day to: – Corbevax Vaccine – Covovax Vaccine – Molnupiravir anti-virus drug for limited emergency use “.

With this agreement, the number of covid vaccines that have received authorization of emergency use in this country has increased to eight. Six Vaccines Covid-19 – Serum Institute Covishield, Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin, Zycov-D Zydus Cadila, Russia Sputnik V and Moderama and Johnson and Johnson made by the US – have received EUA from previous Indian drug regulators.

EFFICACY OF COVOVAX & CORBEVAX?

Novavax claims in June that vaccines have the effectiveness of more than 90 percent in preventing symptomatic infections of Covid-19. For Corbevax, the Ministry of Health and family welfare in June gave a nod to Biological E to conduct clinical trial phase 3 of its Covid vaccine based on ‘promising results’ in phase 1 and 2. However, the results of the phase 2 trial or phase 3 Phase 3 vaccines have not been published.
